August newborn photos

We found a wonderful photographer to come to the house to do a newborn photo session for Auggie.  The pictures all turned out wonderful, here are some of the favorites.

Auggie will sleep in our room for now.  We set up a baby corner for the crib and a book case that houses all his baby stuff.

Welcome, August Ryan!

Our sweet baby boy is already one month old!  Auggie has been such a great baby, very laid back and sleeps through everything.  We are so grateful to have him as part of our family.  The kids all love him and have been a big help, even Audrey has been helpful in her special 3 year-old way!

August was born on March 9th.  This was a scheduled induction a week before my due date due to my history (Audrey was also induced).  I was actually surprised I made it to this date because he was continuing to measure as a larger baby at all the ultrasounds.  At 9 lbs, 3 oz and 20 inches long, he was my biggest baby.  He didn't really look 9 lbs, but the first thing we noticed was his hair!  He had much more than his siblings and it was really dark!  I was nervous delivering at a smaller hospital as all the others were born in Las Vegas.  We had checked into Havasu Regional Medical Center at 5 am and things moved along very quickly.  The doctor broke my water at 8 am, but I didn't feel the gush of fluids for a few hours which was very different.  She did it really gently, it didn't hurt at all.  They bumped up the pitocin gradually and the harder contractions started coming around 1 pm.  I was starting to get pretty miserable and at one point I considered taking the IV pain meds, but Ryan said I would be mad at myself later, so I'm glad I didn't.  When I felt I needed to push I felt that something wasn't quite right.  He wasn't in position, so my OB was trying to move him along without much success.  It was extremely painful and I was so exhausted I couldn't push very well.  She suggested I move to my side and push and in doing that it got him in a better position.  I was starting to freak out, even though I only pushed for 15 minutes it felt like an hour!  I wanted to try to move to the other side to push because my legs were starting to hurt so bad but then I felt a hard contraction so I just pushed with every ounce of strength I had and finally felt where his head was supposed to be and he came right out and it was amazing relief!  One of the greatest things I will remember from this delivery was all the text messages of love and encouragement from my friends and family.  My friend Jess from Colorado was sending me YouTube music videos like "Push It" by Salt n Peppa and then my friend Catherine from Havasu came to the hospital with flowers and a cooler of drinks and candy bars!

I have to say, the labor and delivery staff was pretty amazing and this was my first time having a female OB and I was very happy with her.  They were super laid back, pretty much left you alone.  The food was horrible, so Ryan's parents brought us dinner and then Ryan got donuts from Donut Post for breakfast.  I only had to stay one night, I did have the option of staying another night but I just wanted to get home and to to my comfy bed, so we were discharged almost exactly 24 hours after he was born!

Welcome to the world, Auggie!

Proud big brother!
